Single Adults and Future Step Families

A new national report (Jan. 13, 2011) by the Pew Research Center reveals the recent statistics on stepfamilies in the past decade. One out of every three or 60% of Americans has a relationship with either a stepparent, a step or half sibling or a stepchild. Today, one out of every three marriages are stepfamilies. This translates into a staggering 100 million people in the US.

Our mission at Recovery after Divorce is to provide hope, healing and life after the loss of a significant relationship. One of our goals is to provide the best possible resources for parents who care about their kids and will eventually become stepparents.  Unfortunately, the failure rate of stepfamilies is well documented.

We want to equip you and those you know who need real life practical answers to the concerns that stepfamilies or blended families face. In an effort to provide these answers we will provide video interviews on our YouTube channel called Afterdivorce1 and video blogs on our web site at http://www.recoveryafterdivorce.com/

Our next video blogs will be several short interviews with Ron Deal,
the national authority on Step-Families and author of The Smart Stepfamily: Seven Steps to a Healthy Family; Smart Step Mom; and The Smart Step Dad. Ron has appeared on national radio and TV broadcasts in the US and Canada and has been interviewed by Fox News, ABC Nightline, ABC News, WGN TV and CBN TV.

Here is our first question for Ron:
What is one of the main things that a couple or a single adult who will become a stepfamily needs to consider before they remarry?
